Centennial Box and Indigo Dyed Cloth

ISSO got an order to make a commemorative gift, so we proposed a set of wooden Bento box, a newly released item in 2021 as ISSO’s original, and an indigo-dyed wrapping cloth.

Centennial Box
We decided on the design in consultation with the woodworkers, using a Bento box made in the Taisho period as a reference. Since we use only cypress trees that are nearly 100 years old, the beauty of the wood grain with few knots is eye-catching. In order to make the most of the beauty of the wood grain and the comfort of touching the wood, which is the result of 100 years of time, and to make it durable, we adopted a clear coating of eco-friendly urethane resin. As a memento, each piece is hand-carved with a name. All the work has been done in Tokushima, and you can feel the excellence of the handwork.

Indigo Dyed Wrapping Cloth
The cloth is dyed by hand using natural indigo dye “Awa Ai” produced in Tokushima and other raw materials, and dyeing liquid prepared by a traditional technique called “Aku-Hakko-Date/ Wood Lye-Use Fermentation Method”.

Box production – Tomoichi Yamaguchi
Coating – Shuichi Ozaki
Hand-Carving – Masaaki Morishita
Plannin & Dyeing – Tokiko Kajimoto

The bento box comes in a set of two pieces, the main body and the nesting piece. In addition to being used as a bento box, it can also be used as a small box for storing important things, a candy box, or a toolbox for hobbies.

The used woods have already passed 100 years so far.

As a tool for daily use, we hope that it will continue to be repaired and used for the next 100 years.
